Dear BCA Families, Happy New Year! I trust you enjoyed a wonderful couple of weeks with your children. In Chapel, I continued our study of the “I am” statements of Jesus. This week we looked at John 14:6 when Jesus stated, “I am the way, and the truth and the life”. Jesus was telling his disciples that it is time for him to leave and go to Heaven. He tells them he is going to prepare a special place for them there. But Thomas, one of Jesus’ disciples, gets worried. He tells Jesus he doesn’t know the way to [...]

Dear BCA Families, In Chapel this week we continued to learn about Advent. There is a reason people fill their homes with candles and lights during Advent and Christmas. We use these special decorations to welcome Jesus, who is the Light of the World. This week, week 3 of Advent Johanna and Alexandra lit the candle representing joy. I shared with the students some Bible verses about joy and mentioned that joy is different from happiness; joy comes from knowing the Lord and is not affected by circumstances, as happiness is. Luke 2:10-11 New International Version (NIV) 10 But the angel [...]

Dear BCA Families, Our Chapel service this week focused on lighting the second Advent Candle, the candle of Preparation (or waiting or prophecy). Thanks to Ella and Isabelle for lighting the candle and reading scripture. Following the lighting of the Advent candle and Bible readings we enjoyed singing Christmas carols. We were able to celebrate the accomplishments of some of our SOTA students as we listened to them perform. We heard from Sofia and Gabriella who played piano. Madame Makonnen presented the Scripture passage in Isaiah that the whole school will learn during the month of December. JK – Grade 4 [...]

Dear BCA Families, As we enter the Christmas season our Chapel this week focused on Advent. Christians throughout history have celebrated this season of spiritual preparation with Advent readings—short Bible passages read during the lighting of the Advent wreath. This time of reflection invites us to remember the reason for the season: the eternal Jesus Christ taking on human flesh. Christians have observed the four weeks leading up to Christmas Day as a special time to prepare their hearts. Grade 5 students Luc and Josh lit the first advent candle and read Bible verses. There are four candles and each one [...]

Dear BCA Families, It has been a wonderful week of learning at BCA! Our week started with our Chapel speaker Mr. Cope who spoke to us about the I am statement of Jesus, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture” John 10:9 He spoke about how Jesus called himself the gate for his sheep. Gates were used to protect the entrance to the safe pen for the sheep. If there was no gate for the sheep pen, the shepherd would literally lay in front of the entrance [...]

Dear BCA Families, The Grade 7 class presented the Remembrance Day chapel on Monday. Jack opened the assembly playing “Oh Canada” on the flute. We wanted to remind all those in attendance of the importance of remembering the past. With this idea in mind the students wrote and performed a skit about the role women have played in Canadian military history. We wanted to remember that keeping peace means not just staying in the past but bringing the idea of peace to our present. Some of the students taught a song “I’ve got peace in my fingers”, about spreading peace by [...]

Dear BCA Families, This week in Chapel I introduced Jesus’ statement, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved” John 10:9. This statement was written at a time when sheep and shepherds were familiar to everyone. The shepherd had an important role of keeping the sheep safe in their pens. The sheep pens were caves, sheds, or open areas surrounded by walls made of stones or branches. The shepherd often slept in the pen to protect the sheep. Just as a shepherd cares for his sheep, Jesus, the Good Shepherd, cares for his flock (those who follow him). [...]

Dear BCA Families, It has been a great week of learning at BCA! We enjoyed meeting all of you at last night’s Parent Teacher Interview evening. We hope the night was a great opportunity for you to connect with your child’s teacher(s) and learn more about your child’s progress. I have heard from a few parents about our after school pick up routine. I have addressed these concerns with our “on duty” staff and would like families to be aware of the expectations for pick up, effective immediately. I have heard and observed that many vehicles approach the roped off area [...]
