EdVenture Program

EdVenture studies take students outside the traditional classroom to experience hands-on learning. Each year is a little bit different and the following are examples of some of the many different EdVenture activities that we have completed in past years:

Athletics:
Golf lessons at Hidden Lake Golf Course, rock climbing at Gravity and Climber’s Rock, tennis, badminton, racquetball and squash instruction at Cedar Springs Racquetball club, bowling at Burlington Bowl, curling, ultimate frisbee and flag football, and a visit to SkyZone indoor trampoline park

Leadership and Community:
The McMaster Altitude Leadership course, overnight camping and team building on the property of BCA, tours of the Hamilton SPCA, touring Jan Kelley marketing and learning about responsible advertising, planting a garden at a local apartment complex, several school beautification projects

The Arts:
Photography and photo manipulation, abstract painting, watercolor painting, cartooning and animation instruction, tours of the Burlington Art Centre and the Art Gallery of Hamilton

Science and Technology:
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada tours, computer construction, media studies and billboard design, creating music videos, making commercials, movies and stop motion animation, fun with physics, CO2 dragsters, pop-bottle rocket ships

History:
HMCS Haida tour, Ukrainian Easter eggs, traditional Paper Tolle (layered Christmas cards), Canadian Warplane Heritage museum, Dundurn Castle, The Mackenzie Printing Press, The Laura Secord Homestead, Crawford Lake

Life Skills:
Wilderness survival and shelter building, the science of baking, healthy eating and grocery budgeting, financial planning and careers week, Swimming at area pools, hiking, CPR training, bike tours of the Niagara region

In addition, students were involved in community service projects. They worked at Sew on Fire Mission in Burlington, preparing supply bags to be distributed in 3rd world countries. At Christmas time, students baked goodies and delivered them to Mission Services of Hamilton to be distributed to those in need. They contributed to a community food drive and also visited the Dream Center, a mission that seeks to alleviate hunger in Hamilton.
