Our teachers and staff at BCA are the strength of the school. All of our teachers are fully accredited and bring a wide range of experience to the school. In addition to providing a high standard of education, our staff seek to live the Christian principles they teach, providing an example to the students in both word and deed.

Heather Crossing (Principal)
Heather attained a Physical Education degree and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Education from Brock University. Heather earned her Specialist qualifications in Physical Education and Primary Education. She completed her Principal Qualifications through the Ontario Principals Council. She is married and has three grown daughters. In the summer Heather loves to spend time at the cottage with her family.
Diana St. John (Office Administrator)
This is Diana’s first year at BCA and she is excited to be working as the Administrative Assistant. Diana has several years of experience working in the Corporate sector as well as many years of experience working for a non-profit organization that assisted individuals with disabilities. Diana is fluent in American Sign Language and enjoys yoga and cooking for family and friends. Any free time is spent being a “Dance Mom” to daughter Ella who attends BCA.
Brie Chapman (Junior Kindergarten Teacher – Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
Brie is very excited to be teaching Junior Kindergarten on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this year. She has been part of the BCA family for about 6 years in many different roles, from working with students with special needs one-on-one to resource teaching to supply teaching, but she has the joy of being one of the JK teachers this year. She is blessed with three wonderful and energy-filled young children who keep her hopping – Milli, Lincoln and Deacon. Brie loves to be outdoors, as well as cooking (and eating!), music, and spending time with her family.
Diana Skinner (Junior Kindergarten Teacher – Tuesdays, Thursdays)
Mrs. Skinner is thrilled to be the JK teacher Tuesdays and Thursdays this year. She earned her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English and Dramatic Arts at McMaster University, and her Bachelor of Education at O.I.S.E./U of T. Over the last few years, Mrs.Skinner has enjoyed being a part of the BCA community as a supply teacher, as well as teaching ESL and resource. She has taught in a variety of settings and ages over the years including teaching Leadership through a Christian organization. Some of her favourite memories are times spent volunteering in her own children’s Kindergarten classrooms. Mrs. Skinner has been married for 19 years and has three children. She loves to spend time with her family, sing for worship at her church, swim in lakes, read, and travel to new places.
Jane Shantz (Senior Kindergarten Teacher)
Jane will begin her 17th year at BCA. She has her BA and BEd from Redeemer University College, and a Bachelor of Religious Education from Tyndale College. Jane is the mother of two young adults and grandma to Caleb, Hudson, and Reuben. Jane loves kids and loves Jesus. She also loves to be creative, enjoys interior design, biographies and worship music. Some of Jane’s additional responsibilities include arranging for chapels/speakers, and the SK graduation ceremony.
Colleen Izsak (Grade 1)
This will be Mrs. Izsak’s 17th year teaching grade one at BCA. She has her B. A. in Social Sciences and her B. Ed. as well as Special Ed. Part 2 and Outdoor Ed. Part 1 from the University of Windsor. Mrs. Izsak has taught in the separate, public, and private school systems and feels very blessed to be a part of the BCA family. Running, biking, and doing yoga are a few of her favourite things.
Heather Bruinsma (Grade 2)
Heather is thrilled to be teaching grade 2 at BCA this year. She’s taught previously in the United Arab Emirates for 6 years and was an EA at BCA before teaching Music at BCA, last year. She has her B.A in English from McMaster University, her B.Ed from Lakehead University and completed her Special Education Specialist at Queens University. When she’s not at school Heather volunteers with the Girl Guides of Canada, plays violin with the Brantford Community Symphony Orchestra and loves growing veggies in her garden.
Candice Quesada (Grade 3)
Candice has been teaching at Burlington Christian Academy for 14 years. She taught grade 2 for many years and now teaches grade 3. She graduated from Mohawk College in Early Childhood Education, then completed her B.A at Ryerson University and then attended Medaille Teachers College. Candice leads Grandparents’ Day, Scholastic Book Fair, and coordinates the Primary Division. She enjoys spending time with her family and reading.
Carol Struyk (Grade 3, Junior French)
Carol is entering her 4th year teaching at BCA. She is an OCT-certified teacher and possesses a CSTC from Redeemer University-College. She received her BA in Elementary Education with a specialization in English from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. Carol is a sports enthusiast. She plays ice hockey, cycles and swims, and whenever able, she is off camping and enjoying the outdoors. Carol’s love for reading and books is something she seeks to instill in her students.
Teresa Hawton (Grade 4, Senior Math)
Teresa has a B.A.(Honours) and a B.Ed. from Nipissing University in North Bay. She has her Jr/Intermediate Qualifications with a Math teachable. She teaches Grade 4 Math, Science, and Art; and Grade 6, 7 and 8 Math. She leads Student Council and tends to all of the BCA scheduling needs. She enjoys traveling, swimming, reading, and movies as well as spending time in North Bay with her 7 nieces and nephews.
Michelle Collier (Grade 4, Community and Public Relations)
Michelle is excited to combine her passion for teaching and marketing with her split role as Grade 4 part-time teacher (Literacy, Social Studies, and Bible) and Community/Public Relations. She has an Honours BA in Religious Studies and Communication Studies from McMaster University and completed her Bachelor of Education at Brock University. Michelle enjoys spending time with her family, reading, baking, and musical theatre.
Tammy Smith (Grade 5)
This is Tammy’s first year at BCA and is excited to be teaching grade 5 and the athletics and healthy living component of our Junior Programming for grades 3-5. She has degrees in History and Physical Education from McMaster University and University of Toronto, where she also completed her Masters in Child Study and Education. Tammy has additional qualifications in Primary Education and Special Education and has taught in the Toronto and Halton boards. She is married and has two daughters, Rowyn and Violet. As a family, they enjoy traveling, biking, hiking, swimming, and watching movies together. Tammy also enjoys reading, cooking, baking, and running.
Dan Cope (Grade 6 & EdVenture Director)
In addition to being the Grade 6 teacher, Dan also heads up the EdVenture program here at BCA. He has his honours BA from McMaster University, and his B. Ed. from the University of Western Ontario. Dan sets up all the equipment for our weekly chapels at BCA and also leads the worship time for staff, students, and parents during our Monday chapel time. His interests range from ultimate frisbee, rock climbing and karate, to playing with his children Mackenzie, Eva, Jack and Olivia.
Shannon Matter (Grade 7, R&D Teacher Leader)
Shannon is excited to be teaching grade 7 homeroom at BCA this year. This will be her second year as the grade 7 teacher, previously teaching at BCA in Grade 3. Shannon is excited about her new role as teacher leader for R&D sessions. She will be working closely with colleagues at Kings Collegiate to facilitate the leadership of R&D at BCA. Shannon has her BComm from Ryerson University and her Graduate Diploma of Teaching from The University of Auckland, New Zealand. She has completed the following additional qualifications; Special Education part 1 & 2 and Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Shannon loves camping, hiking, biking and canoeing in the summer. She also enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
JD Collier (Grade 8, ALPA Director)
JD graduated from McMaster University with a B.A. and completed his B. Ed. at the University of Toronto. In addition to the grade 8 homeroom teacher, he is also the ALPA coordinator and manages the school IT department. His passion for sports and young athlete development leads him to coach a variety of sports throughout the year.
Maria Makonnen (Senior French)
Mme. Makonnen has been our French teacher since 2006. She brings her experience & training in AIM Language Learning and her love of music and drama to make French at BCA an exciting learning experience for all her students. She loves organizing our annual French Café and French Assembly and watching her students shine as they perform in French for parents. She has her B.A. in Linguistics from Guelph University, her B.Ed. from Redeemer University and her Masters of Education from the University of Toronto (OISE). Madame has worked and lived in France, Switzerland, Malawi and Ethiopia. She loves scrapbooking and card making and enjoys reading & playing the guitar. Mrs. Makonnen is currently teaching Senior French.
Jude Kudera (Music)
This is Jude’s first year at BCA and will be teaching music. He has served as Director of Music, teaching for many years. Jude has taught music from Grades 1-8 and has developed and implemented curriculum to meet and exceed the Ontario Music Curriculum guidelines. In addition to his teaching experience, Jude also is an organist and Minister of music at his church. During his spare time, Jude volunteers at his church where he serves on multiple committees.
Michelle Wagman (Curtain Call Director)
Michelle Wagman has been training in music and acting for as long as she can remember. She is a graduate of the prestigious Music Theatre Performance Program at Sheridan Institute – Canada’s leading music theatre program. She has had the privilege of training with some of the best instructors in the country, and continues to take workshops and classes to increase her knowledge. Michelle has performed all over Canada, and has had the pleasure of being cast in some of her favourite shows. She has also spent the last decade portraying some of her favourite Disney Princesses! Being able to create a magical experience for all of the children she has met, has truly been a privilege. But her favourite role she has ever been given, is the role of being a Mommy to her little princess! Michelle looks forward to being able to share her love of music and theatre with everyone, and hopes to inspire all of the students she meets.
Carolina Corral (Learn Spanish Program & JK-SK Spanish Teacher)
Carolina has been our Spanish teacher at BCA since 2013. She holds a degree in Psychology from “Universidad de los Andes” (Colombia – South America) and has +11 years of Training & Human Resources experience. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Instructional Design and Technology. Carolina has 4 sons, 3 of them currently attending BCA. She loves art, music and spending time with her family. She feels blessed to be part of the BCA family.
Samantha Price (Educational Therapist/Director of Student Support Service)
Samantha Price is our Educational Therapist, Resource Teacher, and Director of Student Support Services.. She graduated from McMaster University with her B.A. in English and from Brock University with her Bachelor of Education. Samantha also earned her ECE from Sheridan College. She is currently completing her Special Education Specialist. Samantha is a Professionally Certified Educational Therapist with NILD Canada. In her free time, Samantha enjoys reading, watching movies and spending time with her husband and son.
Jennifer Bye (Special Education)
Jen is looking forward to her 11th year of teaching at BCA. She has a B.A and B.Ed from Redeemer University College and has also taken the following additional qualifications courses: Reading Part 1, Kindergarten Part 1 and recently completed her Special Education Specialist. Jen enjoys being involved in a variety of church activities, including being the leader of a women’s Book Club, attending a weekly Bible study, playing 1st cornet in the Salvation Army Mountain Citadel Band and serves on three committees. Jen enjoys reading, swimming, crocheting and spending time at the cottage.
Mariki Bosua (Educational Assistant)
Mariki has a Bachelor’s degree in Literature and a teacher’s certificate, both obtained from Potchefstroom University in South Africa. After moving to Canada in 2001, she studied for an Autism and Behavioural Science Certificate through Mohawk College. Mariki has a passion for children with any kind of special behavioural or learning needs. She is married and has 3 grown children and an adorable granddaughter. In her free time, she loves to read, sew, travel, and watch NETFLIX.
Jennifer Cook-Grigsby (Educational Assistant)
“Mrs. C” (Jenn) is very excited to return to BCA this year to continue supporting children within the classroom. Mrs. C. joins BCA after several years as an EA with both the Hamilton and Halton Public School Boards. Previous to that, Mrs. C. job coached and taught job preparedness courses with Community Living. A B.Sc. Graduate from University of Toronto, Mrs. C. specialized in Exceptionality in Human Learning. A life long passion of helping others, Mrs. C. believes in the power of volunteerism – Mrs. C. coordinates a respite program for a local organization in addition to volunteering as a Beaver Leader. A mom of two fabulous young boys, in her quiet time – Mrs. C. loves to bake, make crafts, watch movies, spend time with her family and travel.
Tiffany Gray (Educational Assistant)
This is Tiffany’s 2nd year at BCA as an educational assistant. Tiffany is known around the school as she has been a supply teacher is all classes and run the after school care program in 2017-2018. She has her bachelor’s degree and Early Childhood Education diploma with a passion to teach early elementary grades. Before BCA, she travelled the world backpacking and teaching English. In her spare time, she is involved with her church, loves to read, and spend time with
Eleanor Verstraete (Educational Assistant)
This is Mrs. V’s second year at BCA as an Educational Assistant. While having a background in Marketing, she became passionate about education after having a child with special needs and successfully navigating the school system. Mrs. V worked at TDSB for 10 years with grades K-12 and specialized in behavioural and DD classes. She then worked at Willowdale Christian School as an EA for 3 years before making a big move to Cambridge from Toronto. She is enjoying the tranquil community with her 3 children Chanel, Carter, Madden, and her husband. She enjoys watching hockey with her family who all support a different team in the NHL.
Josie Burgess (Educational Assistant)
This is Josie’s second year at BCA as an Educational Assistant. She has a BASc in Child, Youth & Family from the University of Guelph and experience working with children through camps, drop-in programs, schools and tutoring. Josie enjoys her role as an EA because it allows her to support students individually to help them see and reach their full potential. In her free time, she enjoys photography, kayaking, serving at her church, travelling and playing the ukulele.
Stephanie Konefal (Educational Assistant)
Stephanie Konefal has been an educational assistant with BCA for three years. After she received her BA from Brock University she began to volunteer and work with Erin Oak Kids where she truly found her calling for becoming an EA. She is happy to be a member of the BCA learning community and looks forward to this new year. When she’s not working with students, playing guitar in chapel, or helping in the classroom, Stephanie can be found at the movies or front row to see her favourite bands.
Andrea Luna (Educational Assistant/Extended Care)
Andrea is excited to be part of the BCA community this year. She completed a B.A. Honours in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour at McMaster University, where she focused primarily on child development. She has worked one-on-one with children with ASD in a private school setting and through recreational programs at the YMCA. She completed her B. Ed. at Brock University, where she gained experience teaching at different schools throughout Ontario using an interest-based approach. From a very young age, she has been serving at her church by teaching Sunday school to elementary-age children. Andrea is passionate about helping students succeed both socially and academically while encouraging them to grow in their faith. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym, attending bible studies and photographing events with her husband. This year she is looking forward to supply teaching and supervising the before and after school program.
Grace Champagnie (Educational Assistant/Extended Care)
Grace is very excited to be a part of the BCA community as an educational assistant and helping with the extended care program. She has her teacher’s aide diploma, and she has taught Sunday school at her Church for over 6 years. She is blessed with her son Jahkiah. Her free time is spent with her family and friends. She enjoys playing and watching sports and her movie nights with her son.
