Our teachers and staff at BCA are the strength of the school. All of our teachers are fully accredited and bring a wide range of experience to the school. In addition to providing a high standard of education, our staff seek to live the Christian principles they teach, providing an example to the students in both word and deed.

Heather Crossing (Principal)

Heather attained a Physical Education degree and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Education from Brock University. Heather earned her Specialist qualifications in Physical Education and Primary Education. She completed her Principal Qualifications through the Ontario Principals Council. She is married and has three grown daughters.  Heather enjoys connecting with students through weekly Bible studies. In the summer Heather loves to spend time at the cottage with her family.

Doreen Van de Ban (Office Administrator)

Doreen began at BCA in August 2014 and is thoroughly enjoying her role as BCA’s Office Assistant! She enjoys working for and with people and especially interacting with children. Her responsibilities include managing the communication between the school and its families, processing registrations, assisting staff members with administrative functions, and occasionally nursing scrapes and administering band aids. Doreen is married to Harvey and they have two delightful young children. She enjoys being with her family and friends, scrapbooking, reading, and being in God’s beautiful creation.

Kim Beaman (Junior Kindergarten Teacher)

Kim is excited to return to teaching Junior Kindergarten on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  She earned her B. S. in Bible and her B. S. in Education at Lancaster Bible College.  She previously taught at BCA for almost five years and is excited to be rejoining the staff after some time with her own three children.  She loves sharing with children that God loves them and seeing them engaged in learning about His world.  Kim also enjoys reading, back yard fun with her family and relaxing at the cottage.

Barb Heeringa (Junior Kindergarten Teacher)

Barb is from Moncton, NB and received her BA and BEd. from Crandall University in Moncton. She is an Ontario Certified Teacher and has been teaching in Ontario as a classroom teacher since 2002. Barb enjoys teaching French, and she has earned her ESL specialist part 1 from Queen’s University. Barb spent the last 10 years teaching at John Knox Christian School in Oakville, where she had the joy of teaching Grade 4 primarily. Barb lives here in Aldershot and enjoys spending time with her husband
John, and her  daughters Abby and Sadie who attend BCA. She gets the privilege of teaching every Tuesday and Thursday in the JK class!

Jane Shantz (Senior Kindergarten Teacher)

Jane Shantz is our Senior Kindergarten teacher. She has her BA and BEd from Redeemer University College, and a Bachelor of Religious Education from Tyndale College. She is the mother of two young adults and grandma to Caleb, Hudson, and Reuben. Jane love kids and loves Jesus. She also loves to be creative, enjoys interior design, biographies, movies, and plays the flute. Some of Jane’s additional responsibilities include arranging for chapels/speakers, and SK graduation ceremony.

Colleen Izsak (Grade 1)

This will be Mrs. Izsak’s 14th year teaching grade one at BCA. She has her B. A. in Social Sciences and her B. Ed. as well as Special Ed. Part 2 and Outdoor Ed. Part 1 from the University of Windsor. Mrs. Izsak has taught in the separate, public, and private school systems and feels very blessed to be a part of the BCA family. Running, biking, and doing yoga are a few of her favourite things.

Jennifer Bye (Grade 2)

Jen is looking forward to her 9th year of teaching at BCA. She has a B.A and B.Ed from Redeemer University College, and has also taken the following courses: Special Education Part 1 and 2, Reading Part 1 and Kindergarten Part 1. Jen enjoys being involved in a variety of church activities. She is the leader of a women’s Bible study and plays 2nd cornet in the Salvation Army Mountain Citadel Band. Jen enjoys reading, swimming, crocheting, sitting in the sun and spending time at the cottage.

Shannon Matter (Grade 3)

Shannon is very excited to be teaching grade 3 at BCA this year. She has been working at BCA for the last three years as an Educational Assistant. She has her BComm from Ryerson University and her Graduate Diploma of Teaching from The University of Auckland, New Zealand. She has completed the following additional qualifications; Special Education part 1 and 2 and Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Shannon loves camping, hiking and canoeing in the summer. She also enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

Candice Quesada (Grade 3)
Teresa Hawton (Grade 4 & Primary Division Head)

Teresa has a B.A.(Honours) and a B.Ed. from Nipissing University in North Bay. She has her Jr/Intermediate Qualifications with a Math teachable. She teaches Grade 4 Math, Science, Language; Grade 4 and 5 Art; and Grade 7 and 8 Math.  She serves on the Social committee, the Fall Festival committee, the Grade 8 Graduation committee, and tends to all of the BCA scheduling needs. She enjoys traveling, swimming, reading, and movies as well as spending time in North Bay with her 7 nieces and nephews.

John Williams (Grade 5 & Junior/Senior Division Head)

This is John’s 29th year of teaching in Christian education. He earned his B.A. from the University of Guelph and has taught homeroom in grades 5, 6, and 8 and was also a principal for three years. He has taught many subjects yet especially loves teaching History where he now teaches all grades from grade 4 through 8.  He loves travelling, cycling, and golf and is a huge fan of buying and selling antiques, especially vintage children’s books.

Dan Cope (Grade 6 & EdVenture Director)

In addition to being the Grade 6 teacher, Dan also heads up the EdVenture program here at BCA. He has his honours BA from McMaster University, and his B. Ed. from the University of Western Ontario. Dan sets up all the equipment for our weekly chapels at BCA and also leads the worship time for staff, students, and parents during our Monday chapel time. His interests range from ultimate frisbee and karate, to playing with his daughters Mackenzie and Eva.

JD Collier (Grade 7, ALPA Director, & Head of Senior Programming)

JD graduated from McMaster University with a B.A. and completed his B. Ed. at the University of Toronto. In addition to the grade 7 homeroom teacher, he is also the Director of Senior Programming and ALPA coordinator. His passion for sports and young athlete development leads him to coach a variety of sports throughout the year.

Carolyn Bowler (Grade 8)

Carolyn has been working at BCA since 2008, teaching grades 5 – 8, and loving the cute factor in JK/SK PHED! She completed her undergrad and Teacher’s College at the University of Ottawa. Carolyn coaches sports teams throughout the year and runs school wide, annual events like, Winterluve.

Maria Makonnen (French Grades JK – 6)

Mme. Makonnen has been our French teacher since 2006. She brings her experience & training in AIM Language Learning and her love of music and drama to make French at BCA an exciting learning experience for all her students. She loves organizing our annual French Café and French Assembly and watching her students shine as they perform in French for parents. She has her B.A. in Linguistics from Guelph University, her B.Ed. from Redeemer University and her Masters of Education from the University of Toronto (OISE). Madame has worked and lived in France, Switzerland, Malawi and Ethiopia. She loves scrapbooking and card making and enjoys reading & playing the guitar.

Susan Ingram Kerr  (French Grades 7-8, Director and Music Teacher of School of the Arts (SOTA)

Susan Ingram Kerr feels privileged to be working with the great staff and students here at BCA! She has now been directing the SOTA program for two years, and looks forward to more growth and depth in the program this year.   She has been a musician for 35 years, a teacher in public (English and French Immersion) and Christian schools for 20 years, and a Presbyterian minister for 15 years. After receiving her B.A. from McMaster, she went on to do her B. Ed., and M. Div. at the University of Toronto. She is a teaching member of the Royal Conservatory of Music. Outside of school, she preaches occasionally and  is involved in the Praise Team at her home church, Knox Presbyterian in Waterdown.  Mrs. Kerr also directs the Company of Saints, a Christian community youth theatre troupe. One of her greatest joys is to see students revelling in and inspiring others with the gifts God has given them!

Tyler Veitch (Music Grades 5-8)

Tyler Veitch is a music enthusiast with a big heart for stringed instruments. He played the electric bass for many years on the worship team at Chartwell Baptist Church with his family and has even recorded on his father’s rock album once upon a time. He climbed the concurrent education ladder receiving his B.A. and BEd and spent the first year of his career as an educational assistant at John Knox Christian School. When Tyler isn’t inspiring youth to shape their world, you can find him on the courts playing basketball or coaching at Appleby Summer Camps.

Tara Goudreau (Curtain Call Director/Educational Assistant)

Tara is one of our new Educational Assistants and the Director of our Curtain Call Program for students in Grades 6-8.  She graduated from Laurentian University with an Honours Degree in English and from D’Youville College with a Certificate of Education. Tara is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and has taught in both the public and private school system.  She most recently completed an LTO position with Hamilton Christian District High School.  Tara is a graduate of The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition where she earned a Diploma in Holistic Nutrition and is certified as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. She also spent 9 years working as a professional actress in theatrical productions, commercials and films.  Tara enjoys yoga, indoor rock climbing, hiking, reading and especially spending time with her husband and two daughters.

Samantha Price (Educational Therapist/Head of Special Education)

Samantha Price is our Educational Therapist, Resource Teacher, and Head of our Special Education Department. She has her BEd from Brock University and her ECE from Sheridan College. Samantha is a certified Educational Therapist with NILD Canada and is currently working to complete her Special Education Specialist through Brock University. In her free time, Samantha enjoys reading, watching movies and spending time with her husband and son.


Carolina Corral  (Learn Spanish Program & JK-SK Spanish Teacher)

Carolina Corral offers private Spanish lessons at the school, teaches the JK / SK Spanish class and runs the Spanish Club since 2013.  She holds a degree in Psychology from “Universidad de los Andes” in South America (Bogota – Colombia) and has +11 years of experience in Training and Human Resources.  Carolina is married to Rafael Corral and they have 4 sons, 3 of them currently attending BCA. She loves art, music and spending time with her family. She feels blessed to be part of the BCA community.

Carol Struyk (Educational Assistant)

Carol returns to the BCA team as an EA this year.  She is an OCT-certified teacher and served on the supply list last year.  She  received her BA in Elementary Education with a specialization in English from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, and has an additional qualification in Special Education.  Carol is an avid sports enthusiast and loves to read, write, and get out in the garden.  Whenever able, she is off camping and enjoying the outdoors.
