Dear BCA Families,

Welcome back! It was wonderful to see many families out for our opening assembly and Wednesday evening’s “Meet the Teacher” event. I trust your children are settling into their new school routines. I will be sending Principal’s Newsletter monthly this year.

Important Information

Uniforms – This week, we have allowed families time to purchase required uniform items. Starting Monday students will be expected to be in proper uniform. Shoes are to be dark coloured (one colour) with dark coloured laces and no colourful logos. Socks are to be navy or black and all one colour. Leggings are not considered pants. Car Pooling Request – There are two families that are looking to car pool with another family. The first family have a son in Grade 2 and live near the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital area of Oakville. Their address is Newcastle Crescent. The other family has a son in Grade 5 and live in the Appleby and Taywood area in Burlington. Please let me know if you are interested in carpooling.

Christmas Concert – Our Christmas concert is scheduled for Thursday December 12 at 1 p.m. This is a new time for our Christmas concert so please take note. For families who are not able to attend we will be videoing the event.

Chapel

Each Monday we begin our week with Chapel. This year’s theme is “Telling the Story”. We will be learning about God’s story and how God uses different people in the Bible to teach us about His son. We will be hearing about various Bible characters (Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, Ruth, Mary, Daniel, David and many more), their story, and how God revealed himself in each of their lives. Some teachers will also be sharing their personal stories of how God revealed himself to them. Stay tuned to hear about His story, their stories and our stories! We will have guest speakers and class presentations. We hope you can join us Mondays at 9 a.m.

Spotlight on Students

Our Grade 2 students are learning to become book critics as they provide their feedback about books they have read. They are also learning interesting facts about animals.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

We are very excited to start BCA’s very first PTA. We look forward to a fun year for all. For any questions, comments or how to get involved please email us (Tosha Freitag, President, Rob Grigsby, VP, Anna McDowell, Treasurer, Colleen Linde, Secretary) bcapta@bcaschool.ca We have started the year off with assigning a class rep to each grade. Please look for an introduction letter from your teacher. Our first PTA meeting with the members at large (YOU) is on September 17th at 3:30-4:30 in the grade 8 room. After care will be provided.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed for the upcoming Senior campout (Grades, 6-8). We will also need food and drink donations. Please speak with your class rep if you are able to donate. We will need parents to help with tent set up and perhaps some overnight chaperones. Mr. Collier and Mr. Cope will be running the event.

Coaches Needed

We are looking for BCA coaches for the various sports teams.

Volunteers needed to run a practice 1-3x week at either of the following times starting 3 weeks prior to the tournament. 7:30a.m.-8:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m.-12:45 p.m. 3:30-4:30

Important Dates

September 13th – Grade 7 Immunization Forms need to be handed into the front office. The Halton Health Department will be picking up the forms on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 and they will not be able to be accepted at our school office after this date. The immunization dates are as follows;

Monday October 21, 2019 — Hep. B and HPV Monday January 27, 2020 – Menactra Monday May 11, 2020 – Hep. B. and HPV

September 16th — Edsby Information Meeting 3:45 p.m. – for parents to learn more about Edsby and how it will be used this year as our primary communication tool.

September 17th — PTA meeting 3:30 p.m.

September 27th — Toonie Casual Day – Once a month, usually the last Friday of the month, students may dress in casual clothes for “Toonie Casual Day” if they bring in a Toonie. If students choose not to participate, they can wear their uniform and don’t have to bring in a Toonie. Toonies collected will go to “Next Door Social Space” located in Burlington, across from Ikea.
